Being a homeowner is not always an easy task - unfortunately, the home does not run itself. You need to know how to deal with problems as they pop up and how to search for solutions to these problems. Today we will be discussing everyday home owning information you should know to save you time when an emergency arises. Lets jump into some remedies for home emergencies:

Unclog a drain:

Though everyone would suggest you buy harsh and pricey chemicals to clean a clogged drain, this isn't your choice. It is better to have a small plunger and also a drain snake ready to be used to solve such issues mechanically.

After that, you will remove the main clog; you can clean the smelly gunk by using just a cup of baking soda into the drain. Then you can add around four cups of bubbling hot water and then add a cup of vinegar. This chemical reaction that is vigorously active will clean up any debris remaining and leave you with a clean drain, and smell fresh.

To fix a loose or running toilet:

If your toilet has nonstop running water, then it is a situation you will have to deal with at once. If you don't deal with it at once, you will be left with a huge water bill. So it is best to know what will be there in the toilet tank once you lift its top lid.

Sometimes all you will have to do to fix this running water is to reposition the part of this assembly, but if this isn't enough to solve the issue, then there may be a replacement needed.

Fill up gaps and cracks:

Filling up these cracks and gaps is called caulking. This is a process of air sealing method for your stationary parts at home, like the electrical outlets and window frames. You can also wait for a dry, warm day, clean up the area you are attempting to do caulking for, remove the loose debris, and hold the gun consistently at a 45-degree angle.

Then apply this caulk in a smooth stream and do not pause. Create an even film of the material. New homeowners might want to fill up all cracks, and caulking is one method.

Turn the smoke detector off:

Modern homes have electric detectors for detecting smoke and work with a battery backup. If you are getting a false alarm, you should cut its power to its system and further disconnect every unit's battery to turn the piercing sound off. Just find the smoke detectors switch in the circuit breaker box, and if you haven't already, get them appropriately labeled. Doing so will help you in case of emergency when your food is melting in the kitchen, and this piercing sound won't go off. New homeowners should get this labeling done as soon as they move in.

Clean refrigerator coils:

Your refrigerator is working hard all the time; hence maintaining it is important not to pay its repair bills. Dirty coils can make your fridge work harder than it needs to; it can also shorten its whole lifespan.

Hence cleaning your refrigerator from time to time is a good thought. Pull the fridge out from the wall, make sure you unplug it and find the coils in it. They may be either at the back or under the fridge. And clean the coils out easily.

These tips will help you manage your home with suitable processes that will make you a great homeowner - smart steps every new homeowner should take to keep the family and the house safe and comfortable in the home.
